What Is EVO ICL? 

ICL stands for Implantable Collamer Lens. The surgery is done by creating an incision in your cornea through which a lens can be implanted between your iris and natural lens. This approach can treat: 

  • Myopia: Nearsightedness
  • Astigmatism: An irregularly shaped cornea or lens

Improved Vision

After EVO ICL, most of our South Bay patients experience a significant improvement in their ability to see clearly. 

Reversible Surgery

Although the lens can remain in place indefinitely, it can also be removed. This may be necessary if you develop cataracts or if your prescription changes. 

Ideal for People Who Can’t Have LASIK

If you have thin or irregular corneas, you likely won’t be a candidate for laser eye surgery. In this case, EVO ICL may be an alternative. 

Easy Recovery

Because ICL doesn’t involve removing tissue or changing the structure of your eye, most of our patients experience a relatively easy recovery.

The EVO ICL Surgery

EVO ICL can be placed during a quick, 30-minute procedure. Prior to surgery, Dr. Liu will dilate and numb your eyes to keep you comfortable. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, she’ll make a small cut at the base of your cornea. Through that tiny opening, she’ll insert the lens and place it behind your iris and in front of your natural lens. The incision is so small that stitches aren’t required.

Choosing Between ICL and LASIK

At Beach Cities Laser Vision, we can help you choose between LASIK and EVO ICL. Both options are safe and low-risk and have a high satisfaction rate among our Torrance patients. With that said, here are a few things to keep in mind when considering your options:

  • As a general rule, ICLs work well for people with thin corneas, severe nearsightedness, and chronic dry eye. 
  • When we place ICLs, we don’t have to remove corneal tissue. The lens also offers UV protection to shield your eyes from damage. 
  • LASIK can’t be reversed because it changes the structure of the eye, whereas ICLs can be removed if necessary.
  • We tend to recommend ICLs for patients up to 45 years of age.

Who is a Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery?

During your consultation for EVO ICL in Torrance, Dr. Liu will perform a comprehensive exam, assess your refractive error, and talk to you about your vision problems. In general, you’ll be a good candidate if you:

  • Are between the ages of 21 and 45
  • Have a stable prescription that hasn’t changed in one year
  • Are in good overall health
