LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a popular laser eye surgery that corrects vision by reshaping the cornea. It treats conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, offering rapid visual improvement.
While we can’t predict your unique outcomes without an exam, many of our Torrance patients achieve 20/20 vision after LASIK. In addition, most patients are able to drive, watch TV, play sports, and more without using corrective lenses.
We use anesthetic eye drops to ensure that the LASIK procedure is completely comfortable. As such, most of our patients report that LASIK is not painful at all. After the procedure, your eye may feel irritated for a few hours, but this should clear quickly.
LASIK is ideal for individuals with stable vision, healthy corneas, and moderate levels of myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. Candidates should also be over 18 and not pregnant or nursing.
The actual LASIK procedure takes about 15 minutes for both eyes. The laser itself only reshapes the cornea for a few seconds per eye, and patients can usually return home shortly after.
LASIK is generally safe, but potential side effects include dry eyes, night glare, halos, or temporary discomfort. Rare complications can include infection or issues with the corneal flap, but these are uncommon.
