Before surgery, Dr. Liu will take detailed measurements of your eyes and perform a complete exam to assess your overall eye health. During surgery, you will lie comfortably on the operating table, and we’ll administer drops to numb your eyes. Once the drops have taken effect, Dr. Liu will make a flap in your cornea. She’ll then raise the flap and reshape the corneal tissue to provide the refraction you need to see clearly. 

What Are the Risks?

In general, LASIK eye surgery is a very safe procedure that is appropriate for most of our Long Beach patients. Some potential risks include dry eyes, infection, and difficulty seeing at night. 

In very rare cases, serious complications may occur, which can result in vision loss or changes to your visual acuity. During your private consultation, Dr. Liu will review these risks with you and help you weigh the benefits and drawbacks.

Is LASIK painful?

We use anesthetic eye drops to ensure that the LASIK procedure is completely comfortable. As such, most of our patients report that LASIK is not painful at all. After the procedure, your eye may feel irritated for a few hours, but this should clear quickly.

How long is the recovery?

Recovery from LASIK is relatively brief. Most patients are able to resume their normal daily activities the very next day. You’ll notice an improvement in your eyesight within the first 24 to 48 hours, and your vision will keep sharpening over the next several months. You’ll need to use your prescribed eye drops to promote comfort and healing during the first few days, and you may need to avoid swimming and contact sports for several weeks.
